Progress in Haiti...

From Grace Village Haiti

To:

All Friends of Haiti and concerned People

Greetings from Grace Village (Grace International’s base in Port au Prince, Haiti).  The devastating earthquake that happened this January brought a lot of uncertainty and distress.  Millions of people were displaced, and very sadly, hundreds of thousands of people died under the piles of rubble and concrete!

Here is what we have been up to since the earthquake:

·         Grace Village, our once well-manicured 20 acres of enclosed land turned into a place of refuge for over 15,000 people within the first couple of days following the earthquake

·         The number swelled from there on, and we now service over 25,000 people who live or receive medical treatment on our compound.  We have also become the appointed distributors of food to over 100,000 people in our community

·         We have organized this camp and separated it into blocks, appointing a block captain and small committee in each block

·         We have provided the people in this refugee camp with wells, showers, toilets, and a trash disposal system in order to prevent the many health risks associated with such situations

·         We rebuilt the walls around the camp and appointed security personnel to keep the people safe (and now more people want to be here because it’s the safest place they know)

·         We have managed the distribution system for World Food Programme in the distribution of food to over 100,000 people on several occasions

·         We have formed a partnership with Medecins Sans Frontiers (Doctors Without Borders), making the Grace Hospital (in Grace Village) the biggest MSF site in the country

·         We have formed agreements with several other organizations through which they can provide care to thousands of people in our jurisdiction (for example: Save The Children’s psychological support group to child-survivors of the quake)

·         We have formed several partnerships and are actively working on identifying land on which to build semi-permanent and permanent homes to get people away from the risk of dangerous weather and flooding

·         We have identified a model of new, safe, and sustainable housing/community options through which we intend to help thousands be housed, and establish productive lifestyles in the long-term

·         We have hosted visiting medical teams bi-weekly to administer additional care and treatment to thousands of people in our camp, as well as remote sights

·         We have become a model for healthy, proactive, and efficient camp management even to the point of being observed and emulated by UN and US Marines

·         We have reinstated our feeding program through which we used to feed 3000 children daily (we are working towards getting back to doing this daily)

·         We have established a partnership for a program through which one child per month can travel to the United States to receive a life-saving surgery that is unavailable to the child in Haitian hospitals (our first girl, Giovani, will be completing her immigration process and making her trip in the next couple of weeks!)

·         We continue to fight the battle to secure a safe, productive, and hopeful future for all Haitians

Please partner with us as we move forward with these urgent needs:

·         Tarps, tents, and food for thousands of people who are in our camp

·         Shipping (air and sea) avenues through which we can continue the flow of supplies into the country

·         Capital for the completion of our temporary resettlement and permanent housing work (we are creating sustainable, healthy, eco-friendly, and empowering communities through which the Haitian people can access and utilize their full potential)

·         Immigration approval for our 100 children who are too traumatized to enter back into the Girls Home and Boys Home in Carrefour (we are looking to house them in the US for about a year during which they can recover while we rebuild their homes)

Join us on the journey to accomplish our mission: to RESCUE, RELIEVE, RESTORE!

Refugee Tent City at Grace Village

Between 22 and 25 thousand earthquake refugees are now living on our Grace village compound at Lamentin 54. Little tents made out of sheets are seen everywhere on the ground, not one inch of ground space left vacant. More than 9 thousand children, from newborns to 12 year olds are among the suffering survivors. Food, shelter (tent, temporary housing), security, sanitation, medication are still the biggest need of the people in the Village. The CNN’s and other media cameras have left Haiti, and many of the big organizations and militaries are pulling out. The momentum of the response is dying out and people are stopping giving, while the urgent needs of the people remain unmet and we still have responsibility on our shoulders to care for them. It is not the time for God’s people to stop giving. It is time for the church of Jesus-Christ to stand in unity to demonstrate God’s love and compassion!

What Grace Village is doing to help the earthquake refugees

Food Distribution on Waney Compound

·         Thanks to the generous contributions of our many friends, churches and supporters of Haiti, we have been able to purchase and distribute food twice a week to more than 200 refugee families who live on our Grace Tabernacle refugee compound at Waney 93. We need your continuous financial support to keep the food distribution going on. On Waney Campus the people need tents, water wells, bathroom facility, food and
sanitation.  Please see our “Giving Options” below to make your donation today.

"I was hungry, and you gave me food."  Jesus

Truck Purchase & Vehicle donation
·         We were also able to purchase a 4 ½ ton Isuzu truck for $42,000 USD to help in transportation of food and medical supplies. Thanks to Abundant Living Ministries of Florida, Living Word Christian Center of Chicago, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Cypress, Texas, Haiti Love & Faith Ministries Inc in Lyons Kansas, and First Methodist Church in Dickenson Texas, for contributing the $42,000 plus $3,700 cost to build the back cover. We are still in need of two passenger vans for transportation of medical and relief teams.

We have been blessed by ICCC     (Int’l Communion of Charismatic Churches)  with a passenger van and a pickup truck filled up with supplies. Another pickup truck was also donated by Cornerstone Church of Lima, OH. We are working to find a way and funds to ship them to Haiti. We were just informed that the Haitian Government will not allow any vehicle older than 5 year old in the country. Let’s pray.    If any church wants to purchase a van in Haiti for the ministry, it is still needed.

Rebuilding the walls at Grace Village

Most of the walls around Grace Village Campus have been destroyed or damaged by the earthquake. We have been working on rebuilding them in order to provide security on the compound. Safety is a great concern for our medical teams, the children at the orphans' home, and the ladies. We have already spent more than $13,000 for 60% of the work done on the eastern and northern sides. It will cost more than $23,000 USD to rebuild the walls around the whole campus. A big thank-you to Dr. Mark Wade of New-Jersey for $7,000 gift towards the walls and thanks to all other donors who help with this security project!

Start Feeding Program and Bible classes for the Children on our Refugee Camp

·         As soon as the walls are completed we want to begin a feeding program for more than 7 thousand children who live on our compound at Lamentin 54 in order to prevent more starvation. We can buy the food here in Haiti or at the Dominican Republic border; all we need is financial help. We need couple of big tents for this operation.

Temporary Shelter For the little girls at the Girl’s Home

·         We just built the first  12X24 ft. plywood wall/floor and tin roof temporary shelter for the little girls while waiting to be relocated.   Many of the girls still sleep outside and being exposed to the rain. Additional rooms are added as funds become available. It costs $2,500 USD per room. As the rain and hurricane season is approaching, this becomes an emergency!  Please donate a room for the girls. The boys at Waney boy’s home have the same urgent need. Please help!

Temporary Homes to relocate the earthquake survivors – Restoration ministry!

·         This is an EMERGENCY! More than 100 families must be evacuated immediately from various dangerous corners of our damaged buildings. There is no more space on the compound to put their tents. We need to provide for them a house on their own piece of land or somewhere else. We have been looking to accommodate them with military barrack style homes that can house up to 80 people each. We have looked at some available land for the housing restoration project. Please join with us in this EMERGENCY need.

Rescue and Relocation of orphans and distressed children

·         The children are in great need to be rescued as soon as possible. We have been making much progress! We have more detailed information on passports, humanitarian visas and travel costs. If you are interested in hosting children from Haiti disaster or helping with the cost please contact us for information. A big thank you to many families in the United States, Canada and other countries who opened their hearts, their pockets and their homes to welcome the Haitian children.

Medical Care, an ongoing blessing

·         Grace International Medical Center has teamed up with MSF –Doctors without Borders and Medical Teams International to provide care to the sick people. We thank all other medical teams that have been a blessing to the people at Grace Village and other place in Port-au-prince. All medical groups are still very welcome.

Due to lack of space on this present report, it’s not possible to mention the names and contributions of many of our donors, but thank you so much to all of you for your past and continuous support to the earthquake survivors and different other ministry project thru Grace International, Inc in Haiti. The list will come later. May God richly bless you. Please visit our photo gallery at www.giinc.org for the latrest picture update.

Please continue to send your donation to allow us to continue the RESCUE, RELIEF and RESTORATION mission.

Haiti Earthquake Update

 January 30, 2010 Update

We thank God for all of you who have opened your hearts of compassion towards the Haiti earthquake survivors. Your great help and support of our RESCUE, RELIEF and RESTORATION work is already making a difference! This past week we were able to welcome on both of our Grace Village compounds more than  35 doctors, 37 nurses and many other relief persons from the States, Canada and the Dominican Republic. Doctors Without Borders have joined our Grace medical Center and together have done such a wonderful work. Many people have been helped with chirurgical needs and many other lifesaving cares.

The greatest need we have is food. The supply of food left at the children’s home will only last another 3 days. At the boys Home they have even much less supplies. No food has been brought to any of our compounds for the 15,000 plus people we have to care for daily. We are looking into going to the Dominican Republic to purchase food. We need much financial support to carry on this EMERGENCY mission.

Since January 12, 481 earthquake survivors died on our GraceVillage ground because of lack of medical care, food and shelter. People need our help urgently. To make a donation, please click DONATE NOW on the left side of the page.

With the generous contribution  of Abundant Living Ministries in Pembroke Pines FL, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church in Cypress TX, Haiti Love & Faith Ministries Inc in Lyons KS and First Methodist Church in Dickenson TX, we were able to purchase a new  4 ½ ton Isuzu diesel truck for $42,000. It will be a great help with transportation of supplies. We believe God for couple more trucks and vans for this huge disaster work. If you or your church would like to donate a vehicle please contact us as soon as possible. We send a big thank-you to all other ministries and people who have given and continue to give generously to this project.

Rescue effort for orphans and children in distress

Our hundreds of orphans and children in distress are still surviving in the most pitiful conditions, without a home and without help. We are trying to bring the children out of Haiti in groups first, then send them to different families who desire to host and eventually adopt.  10 Christian organizations and Ministries in the States are prepared to provide temporary accommodation and care for more than 900 children. More than 100 families have requested to host or adopt children. We are offered airplane transportation from Haiti to the States. All we need now is US State Department to authorize them to enter the United States. Everyone, please cry to the Lord, talk to your Elected Officials for any help we can get to rescue these precious children form the disaster situation. Some people have been sending $125.00 for passports; we will start ordering passports for some children as soon as possible in order to be ready for any moment.
Please keep these needs in your prayers and financial support:

Here are some urgent things that you could help us with:

Transportation: for our medical and professional volunteers, food purchase and delivery transfer of sick people and all other relief supplies.

  • 2 other  MEDIUM-sized TRUCKS urgently needed. (They cost between US$ 42 and $45 thousand each).
  • 3 fifteen passenger vans.  (The vans cost between US$ 35 and $52 thousand. 15-30 persengers).
  • 2 ambulance vehicles.
  • Access to a helicopter would be a great and invaluable asset.
  • We need temporary facilityies to take care of the sick until we will be able to restore our buildings and be allowed to work inside.  About $20,000 can build something sufficient.
  • Water wells.
  • Help to rescue and relocate our orphans and children in distress
  • More doctors, nurses and all people to help
  • Much financial donation
Please continue to send your donation to allow us to continue the RESCUE, RELIEF and RESTORATION mission.

    • Haiti Earthquake Relief
      January 20, 2010 update

How long can these children wait with a home, very little water and food supply?
This is the only life thy live since January 12.   (the boys Orphanage at Waney)

GRACE ARMY OF LOVE IN ACTION

Grace Army of Love R R R Plan

At this time of unprecedented devastation of the country of Haiti, it is great comfort to see military
ARMY from many nations come together to rescue those thousands of people who have been crushed under debris of collapsed buildings of the 7.0 magnitude earthquake.   As all God’s people from around the world join together to RESCUE, bring RELIEF and to RESTORE we form the great ARMY OF LOVE to show God’s love and compassion.

GRACE ARMY OF LOVE is calling for all God’s soldiers to participate in this R R R emergencyPlan.

  A – RESCUE

We are very thankful to God for all the survivors, including our orphan children. However, our orphan little boys and girls have been without a home since the 12th. Now we are making many efforts to rescue the children out of their Haiti as soon as possible. Many people and organizations already offered to host them in their homes in the States and Canada. We need your help to make this happen. You can call your Congressmen and Senators to help accelerate the visa process at the US State Department and the American Embassy. You can also help with the passport and travel cost if you desire. The passport cost US$125.00. If you would like to host any children or a family for a few months please email us at: graceoffice7@yahoo.com

B – RELIEF

1-   Our EMERGENCY RELIEF program is providing medication, medical treatment, food, water, wells, shelters, clothing, shoes, flashlights, cooking materials and all other relief items.  We already have on the ground couple teams of doctors, nurses, relief workers and builders. The invitation is open for more doctors, nurses  and all people who want to be a part of the Relief teams.

2-   Between 15 and 20 thousand people including children came to find refuge at our Grace Village compound, the Hospital and church campus.  2 to 3 thousand others flooded our other church campus in Waney, Carrefour. How long can they stay with us without food, bathroom, shelters and sleeping before some kind of riots? This is more than an Emergency !. Much financial assistance is needed right away.

3-    We VERY URGENTLY NEED 3 MEDIUM size TRUCKS for the relief efforts. They cost between US$ 45 and 55 thousand dollars each. We also URGENTLY need three 15 passenger vans to transport our medical and professional volunteers. The vans cost between US$ 35 and 45 thousand dollars. We need one or two ambulance vehicles. A Helicopter assistance would really be a great asset.

4-    Need temporary facility to take care of the sick. Probably $20000 can build something like a tin roof to get them inside.

Please click on DONATE NOW or Giving Options on the left to make your donation now !

C – RESTORE

GRACE ARMY OF LOVE is dedicated to help restore the survivors back to normal life.  We will do all we can to participate in the rebuilding mission. We will many teams to get involved.  Please start making plans to participate in the restoration plan.  Start contacting organizations like Habitat for Humanity and all others you may know. All the plans are short, mid and long term.

 January 20th update
I am sure that you are being swamped with information from emails, the media and the internet about Haiti, so I will keep this short. As you know, on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53pm, a catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti. The epicenter of this major quake was right here in Carrefour, where our headquarters and main operations are, just 10 miles west of Porte-au-Prince and its 2 million inhabitants. More than 50 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 4.2 to 5.9 have been sent. Over 3 million people are in need of emergency aid after this major earthquake.

We just want to let you know that we are o.k. No lost of lives among our girls and boys at our children’s homes or the elderly widow’s home. After many days of total inexistence of communication, we just started getting some communication line opening up as of yesterday which allowed us to get little bit more accurate information. We only know about couple dozens of people in my church that perished in this natural tragedy. Many of our buildings have suffered damages which we’ll report in our next report. Right now we need to concentrate our efforts to this list of our emergencies on the ground:

Little girls and little boys in great distress
·         Since January 12, our 51 girls and 31 boys at the children’s home have been living outside in the hot sun and the rain since their homes got severely damadged by the earthquake. Lack of food, water, medicine, shelters are becoming a big problem. We are looking for Friends as good Samaritans in the States, Canada and other countries who can receive them in their homes for few months, until things get better and rebuilt. Urgent relocation is a must while rebuilding is in process. You can help with relocation or with $125 costs of a passport for each child.

Grace Village & Grace Tabernacle Compounds turned to Refuge camps for thousands in distress

·         Our both compounds in Carrefour became Refuge Centers since the first day of the earthquake. Most of the homes surrounding our place have been highly damaged or collapsed, killing thousands of people. Because of this devastation, our mission campuses have become refuge centers. We presently have between 15 and 20 thousand people including children on our hospital site compound at Grace Village in Lamentin. We also host couple thousand people at Grace Tabernacle compound in Waney. These people have no place to go, nothing to eat, nothing, nothing and nothing.  Thousands of families in great distress are crying for help with hospitality. If you can host a family, please let us know as quickly as you can.

U.S. Assistance is not getting in our Carrefour Areas

Most of the assistance and activities you have seen on CNN and the other media channels have not been coming to our areas in Carrefour which was the epicenter of this major quake. We are calling for the God’s Army of Love  to come and help their own brothers and sisters as soon as possible.

We are thankful to all people, churches and organizations that have manifested interest in helping or started sending their help. Only about $1700 have been reported to our online donation account as of today January 18, 2010.  We really need more miracle for much bigger financial assistance to face such a magnitude of crisis on our compounds in Haiti as well as coordinating costs in the States. We have some doctors and other helpers on the way and more volunteers have been waiting to get on board as soon as clearance will be given to fly to Haiti. We welcome all of you in Jesus’ name!

Please continue to send your monetary donations to Grace International, Inc.

Initial reports are very sketchy out of the country due to the destruction of their infrastructure. We will be updating this page as we learn more information. Here’s what we do know at the moment:

God is still in the miracle business!!!

Bishop Joel & Pastor Doris Jeune, are safe, all of their staff is safe and all of their children in their girl’s and boy’s homes are safe. Praise the Lord! They operate two ministry facilities in Haiti, their older facility operates a boy’s home, widows home, church and school, and their newer facility houses a girl’s school, a clinic, a hospital that’s in the process of being completed, school and their main sanctuary. At their new facility which sits on a large plot of land, all off their buildings are intact but everything surrounding them has been highly damaged. God’s hand of protection was certainly at work. However, because of the devastation surrounding them, their land and property has become a refuge camp. Many people have been calling for information and to partner with Grace International immediately to get help to all of those in need.

·        We need doctors, nurses, ministers, Interpreters, reporters, maintenance people, administrators, coordinators, builders, Engineers, PR, Drillers and everyone that can help ship relief donations to Haiti, air transportation for doctors and people who want to come to help.

January 14, 2010 Update

On Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 4:53pm, a catastrophic 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated Haiti. The epicenter of this major quake was just 10 miles west of Porte-au-Prince and its 2 million inhabitants and sent 40 aftershocks ranging in magnitude from 4.2 to 5.9.  Over 3 million people are in need of emergency aid after major earthquake.
